INDUSTRY DAYS and The PITCH: Co-Produced by IFP Chicago with the Chicago International Film Festival October 22-25

IFP Chicago is proud to have co-produced of Industry Days with the Chicago International Film Festival.  Industry Days was the Festival’s first industry-oriented mini-conference.  With 14 events spread over four days, Industry Days provided a rare opportunity for the Chicago and Midwest film communities to connect with and learn from a stellar roster of industry experts from across the country and around the globe.  IFP co-produced panels on international co-productions and on distribution for filmmakers seeking to navigate the changing distribution landscape.

However, the centerpiece of IFP Chicago’s role, was producing The Pitch, a first for Chicago International and a unique opportunity for Chicago and Midwest filmmakers.  Six narrative features in development were selected to present 7 minute max pitch presentations to a panel of industry judges at the JW Marriot on October 25.  Judges included veteran producers Amy Hobby, Brett Hudson, and Steve Pink as well Aijah Keith from Acquisitions at IFC Films.

The pitches included: TILL pitched by Brett Hays and Jennifer Shelby; Oriole Park pitched by Amelia Dellos and Eric Anderson; Ghostaphobiapitched by Brandon and Collin Shiffli; As with Knives and Skin pitched by Jennifer Reeder; Signature Move pitched by Fawzia Mirza, Brian Hieggelke, Eugene Park; and Carney Kill pitched by John McNaughton and Steven A. Jones.

The judges selected Oriole Park by Amelia Dellos and Eric Anderson as the winning pitch and the recipient of a bundle of in-kind production and post services (including donations from Magnanimous Media, AVID, Hewlett-Packard, and Stage 18) valued at approximately $20,000.  The judges also gave an Honorable Mention to Signature Move by Fawzia Mirza, Brian Hieggelke, and Eugene Park.

Beyond the value of the prize, The Pitch advanced IFP Chicago’s mission to mentor filmmakers and projects of merit through the business and development process of getting new work to the lift-off stage. Filmmakers and audience members alike had the opportunity to learn current pitching techniques from industry decision makers.  Congratulations to all the filmmakers who participated!
